Mr.
Harryhausen provided us with the same puppets and
camera that were originally used. With surprisingly
little refurbishment, the puppets were again ready
to be animated. Ray created some beautiful sketches
of the settings that would be needed to complete the
story, and we were on our way.

Ray
Harryhausen began shooting this film in 1952, but
was forced to abandon it when he found that monster
pictures were more lucrative. He always intended to
get back to it, but other projects ended up taking
precedence. Nearly fifty years later, we had the honor
of working with Mr. Harryhausen to complete his vision.
It was meticulous work, but worth the effort!

The
utmost care was taken to remain faithful to the
style of the previous fairytales. The original footage
from the 1950's was restored and incorporated into
the film. New sets were constructed according to
Mr. Harryhausen's direction, using the same traditional
techniques he had used.
After 22 years in retirement, Ray became inspired
enough to animate a few of the new scenes himself!
